PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Worker Schedule

We truly can't run a meet without you! Workers can be parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc.

This year we are trying something new to streamline the process. You will select 3 positions you would like to work when your register your swimmer. While we will do our best to assign you to your preferred choices, we may need to place you where help is most needed. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we implement this new system. Thank you for being an essential part of making our meet a success.

Please remember to check your e-mail for the worker schedule. You will be sent a schedule as soon as registrations are complete. It is very important to fulfill your  assigned duties in order for the meets to go smoothly. Please be prompt to your station at the times & dates assigned to you. It is very frustrating to be the one left standing to be relieved. Should a conflict arise where you cannot work, we ask you to find a replacement worker prior to the night of the meet AND notify the worker coordinator of the change. Job assignments will be split into two shifts; 1st shift ~ events1-40, 2nd shift ~ events 41-82. Worker coordinator is Mandy Rhoades , 618-364-5409.

Job Descriptions

Timer

Great for those who like to watch the action closely and cheer for swimmers! This job is easy to learn and you will have a member from the other team alongside you to help.

(We need 14 per meet – 1 for each lane and 1 backup): As the swimmers arrive at the blocks, face the starter and await his/her instructions at the start of each race. Start and stop your stopwatch according to pre-meet instructions. Verify the information on the time card (swimmer, event, and lane #), record the times for your lane on the time card and give to the runner.

Awards

Great for someone who likes to have a specific task and just get it done. This allows for time off your feet.

(2 per meet): Double check the times on the official event labels and those on the time card. Apply the labels to the appropriate place ribbon and file in the award box.

Concession Stand (SYOA Invite)

Great for anyone with a heart to serve. No knowledge of swim team required.

More info coming

Pinks & Blues

Great for anyone who knows or wants to get to know the swimmers. It is a great job for parents with young swimmers.

(2 per meet): Please arrive 15 min prior to swim meet. Pass out the swimmer time cards to the swimmers prior to their events only giving a child one card at a time as they get lost or torn up easily. Parents may collect their child's cards all at once for invitational meets only. Please sit somewhere easily accessible to the swimmers – near the pit for home meets or the yellow tent for away meets.

Runner

Great for the active parent who wants to be near the action. No actual “running” is required, but some fast walking is necessary on some events.

(4 per home meet, 2 per away meet): Take swimmer time cards from swimmers to timers (25 meter events only) and from timers to the scorer’s table after each event.

50/50 Ticket Sales (SYOA Invite and Champs)

Great for the social parent. This is also a great job for parents of young swimmers.

(1 per meet only) Work the crowd selling 50/50 tickets throughout the first half of the meet. Count and divide the money. Draw the winning ticket at the announcer’s table and have the winner announced. Give our half of the proceeds to the team treasurer, Maggie Calcaterra.

*JOBS THAT REQUIRE SOME TRAINING

Announcer*

Great for the social parent or anyone who doesn’t mind taking charge.

(2 per home meet only): Calls the swimmers to the bullpen prior to their events. Announces the even on the blocks before each race begins. Announces meet score as it is received from the scorers, as well as recognition of our team sponsors.

Scorer*

Great for anyone with computer experience and/or data entry skills.

(1 per meet): Import both teams’ entry data into the computer scoring system. Input swimmer times from time cards into the computer; verify for accuracy, print award labels and official score printout.
